Ellis Walker Builders, Inc. - A Company with a Proven History

The company was formed in early 1979 by Leonard Ellis as R.L. Ellis Builders. Joe Walker became half owner in late 1981 and joined the company on March 17, 1987. The company name was changed to Ellis-Walker Builders, Inc. in January 1984, with Leonard Ellis and Joe Walker as co- owners.

The company's first full year of business was in 1982 and by 1986, the fifth year of business we were awarded $6,002,000.00 in contracts.

By 1995 Joe Walker assumed a majority of the ownership and by 1999 the company completed a volume of $21,435,000.00.

In 1986 we were voted the Savannah District Corps of Engineers' Contract of the Year, the first time a local contractor ever to receive this award. This award covers all contractors working for the Corps in the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.

In 1987 we became an "Inc. 500 Company," listed as the 75th fastest growing private small business in the United States.

In 1989 we received the Small Business Excellence Award from the Methodist College Center for Entrepreneurship.

In 1993 and 1996 we received the Carolinas AGC Pinnacle Achievement Award in the "Best General Contractor" Category. This award is tantamount to the motion picture "Oscar" in that nominations, voting, and awards come from our construction industry peers in the states of N.C. and S.C.
